Armory Arts Week Williamsburg Night, March 6th 2010!

It is finally upon us. Armory Arts Week is so close, and with the Armory show in Manhattan we in Brooklyn cannot wait to host the myriad spectacular events on Saturday, March 6th from 6-10pm. That’s right Ladies and Gentlemen, another wonderful Armory Arts Week Brooklyn Night! An evening when the Brooklyn art scene dons its best hat to ensure a mesmerizing experience in homage of this great event. Don’t get us wrong, Brooklyn always puts its best face forward, but Armory is an excuse to get fancy and really party. Read further for details of the special events in Brooklyn hosted by participating WGA member galleries and associates. Pick out some fancy duds, mark your iCal, and save the date for an extra-attractive someone for one of this year’s most pressing social engagements.

Like the Spice will host an interactive installation from artist Nora Herting:Free Sitting. Nora will set up a portable photo studio outside, and anyone who wishes to sit for her—and be both captivated and captured by her camera technique—may do so.

‘Just Words’ at ART 101, will exhibit new work by Peter Scibetta along with a special live performance by Koning’s Blauw. Baby Copperhead will take time out from his February residency at Pete’s Candy Store to bring his banjo picking. Music will be interspersed throughout the evening and, of course there will be refreshments.

Slate Gallery presents Miriam Cabessa’s ‘79,’ her new series of gold paintings that explore the symbolic and formal properties of gold—a material that connotes security, greed and aesthetic pleasure. The closure reception begins at 6pm, with an Artist Talk at 8pm, and a Gold Party at 9pm.

Capricious Space will host Emmeline de Mooiij’s ‘Muddy’ launch from 7-10pm, as well as the artist’s site-specific installation pieces with photography, collage and screen-printing.

Eyelevel BQE and Mexico City’s Antena Estudio present ‘Let Me Introduce You,’ the work of Antena’s founders Andres Basurto and Laura Ortiz from 7-10pm.

If you are looking for a good puzzle, from 7-9pm, Momenta Art will open ‘The Arbitrariness of Signs,’ a group exhibition of small and large works—paintings, sculptures, drawings, collages and other things, that pay homage to a moment in painting’s history when realism gave way to abstraction. The show will function as an experiment in content production, and is intended to be read as a word puzzle.

Parker’s Box presents ‘Unidentified Living Objects’ from 6-11pm, a show designed to question the soul behind a painting and other inanimate objects, and how they have a personality all of their own. A trip down a road that runs deep… an absolute must if you’ve been looking to indulge your intellect.

Later on at Pierogi’s project space The Boiler, Brian Conley will perform live with his work ‘Miniature War In Iraq… and no Afghanistan’ from 9-11pm. The installation itself presents the original game-table as it stood after the final Las Vegas game. The diorama will be rebuilt, and members of the East Coast Historical Gaming Miniatures Society will begin a new game.

Pandemic Gallery will host the closure party from 6-10pm for ‘Unweaving the Rainbow,’ with new works from Adam Payne and David Pappaceno. These two artists are well-known for conceptual works and finely detailed paintings.

Front Room Gallery is pleased to present, “Space of Mind, works on paper” a three artist exhibition of the medium, including works by Thomas Broadbent, Emily Roz and Patricia Smith.
